Who are you?

A martial arts instructor wears many hats. I thought being a super blogger might be a fun one to add to the mix.

Birth of Sabum-mom

I realize that motherhood has been a thing for a while. There are plenty of books, blogs, videos, and other resources for expecting parents. However, as with other things as a female Taekwondo master, I feel a need to educate and advocate. My writing is not just for the potential and current moms, but people who support them. So, basically, everyone! Whether you are thinking about having a baby, currently pregnant, or want to support others on a Taekwondo pregnancy journey, I am here for you. Welcome to my journey as one of the Taekwonmoms at my dojang! Or, as I like to call myself, Sabum-mom!

I really should have written more about all this while I was pregnant, but my pregnancy was pretty tough. My main focus was trying not to throw up while preparing for my inevitable maternity leave from the dojang. So I'm glad I'm able to do this now, because baby on the outside has been much easier on my body than baby on the inside.

I realized, as I started writing, that all the things I want to talk about won't fit into one post. So I'll link topics below as I write them. Also, here's the usual and necessary disclaimer for this kind of thing - everyone’s situation is unique and this is not professional medical advice. I hope you can learn from my experience, but do your research and make sure you reach out to your medical provider, whether it be your OB/GYN, midwife, or doula, who knows you specifically, to verify or inquire about your pregnancy and postpartum life.

Finally, I hope through this work, I can connect with more Taekwonmoms, learn about their experiences, and use it towards my 7th Dan thesis, which will be about women at the dojang. While I chose a meaningful topic for my 6th Dan - autistic students at the dojang - I feel like it was rushed and done last minute. I'm starting early on this one, so I can really make it useful to others.

Thank you for joining me and please comment if you have any specific questions or topics you are curious about! My Instagram is also great for bite-sized content and fun kick pics.
